Betti marenko biography samples

Dr Betti Marenko is a transdisciplinary dreamer, academic and educator working across context philosophies, planetary technicity and design cultures. She is the founder and controller of the Hybrid Futures Lab, well-ordered transversal research initiative developing speculative-pragmatic interventions at the intersection of philosophy, think of, technology and future-crafting practices.

Betti is properly known for her work at say publicly intersection of design theory with Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari thought, check in the tension between design as dinky terraforming, world-making (and unmaking) enterprise dispatch speculation as the lure of feasible futures. Betti’s approach is to muster theory via ‘practical philosophy’ to conceive of new modes of thinking, new modes of sensing, new modes of yield and existing.

Betti co-edited the volumes Deleuze boss Design, Edinburgh University Press 2015 (with Jamie Brassett), the first book to detain Deleuze and Guattari to provide uncomplicated theoretical framework for the theory tell practice of design; and Designing Germ Objects in Everyday Life. Intelligences. Agencies. Ecologies, Bloomsbury 2021, with Marco Rozendaal (TU Delft) and Will Odom (SFU), uncluttered transdisciplinary research agenda for the vanguard of smart technology and intelligent machines.

Her new book, The Power of Maybes. Machines, Uncertainty and Design Futures (Bloomsbury, 2024) positions uncertainty as an epistemological resource to address the challenges corruption lie down by planetary computation, rethink the next of the human with machines instruct resist algorithmic capture. Contributing to honourableness discourse around the reinvention of explanation for the algorithmic age The Ability of Maybes argues for the originate of modes of living as unornamented micropolitical project through practices of take care of and a pan-sensibility attuned not persuade what is, but to what possibly will be, divesting agency from the finish even of the past with its sentimentality of what has been, and illustriousness safe replication of the known surprise call future.

Betti is Reader in Pattern and Techno-Digital Futures at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London situation she is also Contextual Studies Chief for the BA (Hons.) Product instruct Industrial Design and faculty member of righteousness new MA Design for Industry 5.0, having beforehand held teaching posts at the Routine of Essex, and the University get the picture Urbino, Italy.

From 2013-2017 she was Exploration Leader in the Product, Ceramic and Financial Design programme at Central Saint Martins fundamental across programmes to foster a delving culture, mentor academics and work control develop a strategy for research.

From 2018 she has been Specially Appointed Academic at Tokyo Institute of Technology champion a core member of STADHI (Science & Study + Art & Design Hybrid Innovation) a research collaboration based at Yeddo Institute of Technology in collaboration reduce Central Saint Martins, University of primacy Arts London. Betti’s expertise is sweet-talk the theory and practice of trans- and post- disciplinarity, and the crucial and development of ‘hybrid methodologies’. She is affiliated with the Nohara Rod, Department of Transdisciplinary Science and Masterminding, School of Environment and Society veer alongside her academic work, she admiration part of the strategy team delivering Hybrid Innovation, a training programme for labour partners and knowledge exchange initiatives. Significant research outputs and insights from Betti’s work in Tokyo can be intense in Stacking Complexities: Reframing Uncertainty rod Hybrid Literacies (2021) and Becoming Hybrid. Transdisciplinarity at the Crossover of Science ride Technology and Art and Design (2019).

From 2019-2022 she was Principal Investigator at Forceful of FUEL4Design  – Future Education and Literacy for Designers – an Erasmus+ Strategic Solidify delivered by a consortium (University tinge the Arts London, Oslo School give a rough idea Architecture and Design, Politecnico di Milano and ELISAVA, Barcelona). FUEL4Design is swell curriculum innovation project developing toolkits charge methods to think about and instruct in futures to the designers of tomorrow.  Betti and her FUEL4Design team down attack the Future Philosophical Pills, a deck of buff that interrogate, catalyze and expand mannequin futures through a range of learned standpoints. The Future Philosophical Pills were showcased at the Design Transforms ’23exhibition, Central Saint Martins, in the Topple 2023.

Betti’s earlier work (1990s-early 2000s) thorough on the practices and politics celebrate body modification – specifically tattooing –  analysed  through Deleuze, Guattari and Spinoza’s thought. In the late 1990s she published two seminal books on that subject: Ibridazioni. Corpi in Transito e Alchimie della Nuova Carne (Castelvecchi 1997) and Segni Indelebili. Materia e Desiderio del Corpo Tatuato (Feltrinelli 2002). Both are plant of ‘practical philosophy’ based on Betti’s own extensive experience of, experimentation occur to, and reflection on permanent body scoring. You can read here the abstract of deny PhD thesis Body marking/body mapping. Technologies of shifting subjectivity through skin sloughing machines (2004).
